Eligibility Assessment Overview

The Eligibility Assessment is the first stage of the Standard Assessment Pathway. It determines whether your overseas qualification meets the minimum requirements for physiotherapy practice in Australia. This assessment reviews your educational background, professional registration, and supporting documentation.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Standard Assessment Pathway, you must meet these minimum criteria:

Educational Qualification

What APC requires

• An overseas physiotherapy qualification
• At minimum diploma level

What APC does not require

• A minimum number of years of study
• Full-time attendance
• Professional association membership

Professional Registration

Either — registration

• You meet the requirement for, or already hold, registration in your country of training
• That registration carries no restrictions

Or — the legal right to practise

• You can legally practise without restriction in your country of training
• This is the route where no regulatory body exists

You must provide comprehensive documentation to support your eligibility assessment. All documents must be officially translated if not in English.

English language requirements

English language proficiency is set by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia / Ahpra and is checked as part of the APC pathway. Accepted tests include IELTS Academic, OET, TOEFL iBT, and PTE Academic. Minimum scores, validity periods, and the rules around combining sittings change from time to time, so always confirm against the current Ahpra English language skills registration standard before booking a test.

• We deliberately don't reproduce the score numbers here — they're regulator-set and can change
• If you sat your test more than two years ago, expect to re-sit before applying

APC publishes live processing times on their "Fees and processing times" page. Incomplete applications or those needing additional verification take longer than complete ones — the cleanest way to keep your timeline short is to submit a complete file the first time.

Common Application Issues

Incomplete Documentation

Missing or incomplete documents will delay your application. Ensure all required documents are included and properly certified.

English Language Requirements

Ensure your English test scores meet all component requirements. Partial scores are not accepted.

Document Translation

Non-English documents must be officially translated by a certified translator.
