What is the assessment pathway?

Internationally qualified physiotherapists who want to register with Ahpra in Australia complete an assessment pathway run by the Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC). The pathway checks that your training and clinical practice meet Australia's entry-level standards.

APEP is the current pathway

From 1 October 2025 the Australian Physiotherapy Entry Pathway (APEP) replaced the Standard Assessment Pathway — a changed assessment, not only a new name. The clinical end of the pathway is delivered in two parts: an online Capability Assessment and a one-day, in-person Clinical Workshop. APC emailed candidates already in the Standard Assessment Pathway with their transition options. Confirm current dates and stage transitions on the APC website before planning.
